Where the day can take you
The anchorages of the day
The skipper picks two or three anchorages on the morning itself, depending on the wind, the swell and what you feel like. These are the ones we head for most often: none is guaranteed in advance, the day's weather decides.
Nature reserve
Créole Rock
The rocky islet off Grand Case, inside the national nature reserve. The best mask-and-fins spot in St Martin: shoals of fish, coral and turtles a few metres from the shore.
Nature reserve
Tintamarre islet
An uninhabited island north-east of St Martin, with a white sand beach and clear water. You come here for swimming, snorkelling and the mud bath, an island tradition.
Ideal with family
Pinel islet & Petite Clef
Two sheltered islets to the north-east, in shallow water protected from the open sea. This is the most reassuring anchorage when sailing with young children.
East coast
Orient Bay
The largest beach on the French side, open to the Atlantic and facing Tintamarre. We anchor off the beach, for swimming.
West coast
Grand Case
The village widely regarded as the island's gastronomic capital. We anchor off the beach, a short hop from the seafront restaurants.
End of the day
Baie Rouge and the west coast
The western beaches, facing the setting sun. This is the last anchorage of the sunset charter, before heading back to the port of Marigot.
Inside the nature reserve, anchoring is only ever done on the designated buoys.
